Hanna Dobbels founded and ran the first local studio in Charlottesville, VA in 2014. After realizing how impactful and popular the cardio infused barre workout became, she began developing a way to empower other studio leaders to dive into their passions and embrace their opportunities.

Style. Brand. Growth.

While gaining her MBA at Darden School of Business, Hanna began the process of developing the brand and franchise and licensed out 2 studios. “I want to provide leadership and training and be able to offer a lifestyle brand for anyone to be a part of and thrive in. I also wanted the franchise process to be empowering, affordable, and attainable. Just like our classes.”

Now barre.[d] studio is growing in new markets, creating communities, and building up a tribe of strong women! Our growth as a brand is a reflection of the dedication of our classes, our on-going training, our mentorship, and our commitment to excellence in all that we do.

About the Founder

I was always involved with sports ever since I can remember. From softball to boxing, I wanted to try it all and see what my body was capable of achieving. In my early 20s, I got into an accident and tore several muscles in my shoulder and back. I was put into physical therapy and struggled mentally to overcome having to give up what I had previously known. I knew I had to adapt and change my way of thinking because I refused to let my limitations dictate what I saw possible. I began teaching fitness again, diving into personal training and cycling. I searched for the best movements to train myself and others in low-impact yet result-efficient ways. Small movements led to strong improvements. I began incorporating the use of a ballet barre for a lot of my class sequencing and started to develop the roots of the brand. Nearly a decade later, the method continues to evolve as one of the leading workouts for injury prevention, muscle engagement, core strengthening, and overall total body conditioning. It has adapted to fit every body. The workout continues to grow as a unique fusion of strength-based movements, ballet, body-weight exercises, pilates, and physiotherapy using light weights, resistance bands, and sliders. The choreography of each class seeks to train the body to improve and the mind to overcome challenges.
